Bar Food You’ve Got to Try

What do you like to eat when relaxing and enjoying a drink….or a few? Let’s talk about some of the best bar foods you’ve got to try. At White Horse Tavern, we exceed the typical bar fare of nuts, pretzels, and nachos. We serve a combination of traditional bar foods alongside unique dishes crafted by some of the finest cooks in the business.

From fried calamari to pretzel bits, bars around the country offer a wide array of dishes to appeal to any palette.  A mainstay in bar food is wings–customers will order them with their drinks. Wings are always a classic with your draught beer, mixed drinks, and fountain drinks.

Most Popular Bar Foods

If you love buffalo wings, there are so many flavors of wings you can order, such as teriyaki, parmesan garlic, mango habanero, BBQ, Thai curry, original buffalo, and wings with no sauce. There are also traditional dipping sauces, such as ranch, blue cheese, BBQ sauce, and ketchup.

Though wings and beer are a staple, there are other exciting bar foods you’ve got to try. Nuts and pretzels are another staple available in virtually every bar in the country. White Horse Tavern kicks it up a notch with a pretzel bites appetizer with soft pretzel bites served with smoked Gouda beer-cheese sauce.

Our sweet and spicy bar nuts are not your typical peanuts in the shell, or canned nuts poured in containers along the bar. Instead, our mixed nuts are a delightful combination of heat and sweetness that pairs well with all our drinks.

Wings and Beer

You don’t just have wings at a bar. You have many more options on the menu, such as five cheese nachos. The White Horse Tavern’s five cheese nachos have so many unique ingredients built to make this delicious appetizer. The cooks use pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, pickled red onion, black beans, guacamole, and sour cream. That sounds so good, and your taste buds will surely dance with joy.

If you want something more substantial, White Horse Tavern offers main dishes and sandwiches, and for our adventurous customers–a unique raw bar where you can order chilled mussels, oysters, tuna tartare, or a shrimp cocktail.

Nachos are a great food to share, but burgers and fries are a great meal if you want something more substantial. Some joke that the quality of any bar food can be judged by the quality of the burgers and fries served. At White Horse Tavern, we take the challenge to serve the best bar food in NYC seriously–so that means perfecting the burger!

The double smash burger is a good choice. It is built with two burger patties, American cheese, onion, pickle, comeback sauce, and served with crinkle-cut fries on the side. There are other burgers as well, like the Roquefort select burger. This burger is built by the chefs who put dry-aged beef, Roquefort cheese, pickled red onion, herb oil, and crinkle-cut fries on the side as well.

Finally, we have the Beyond Cheeseburger. This burger is made by using a Beyond beef patty, yellow vegan cheddar & mayo, lettuce, pickle, and of course, don’t forget the crinkle-cut fries on the side. Our vegan customers, or those who just prefer the flavor of Beyond beef, tell us this burger is delicious. If the customers do not want crinkle-cut fries and prefer a healthier option of fries, the White Horse Tavern does also have sweet potato fries that you can substitute for your crinkle-cut fries.

Whether it is an after-dinner treat or you just have a sweet tooth, White Horse Tavern rounds out a menu with a selection of desserts. How could we claim to have the best bar food in New York City without serving the classic New York cheesecake? Chocolate lovers will delight in our molten chocolate cake. We also serve a vanilla bean and raspberry creme brulee. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to any of our offerings, or enjoy it all on its own!

From appetizers and snacks to full dinners, complete with a dessert menu, White Horse Tavern offers something for everyone – with some of the best bar food you’ve got to try. As the second oldest bar in NYC, we invite you to come in and experience why we remain popular in a city with many bars to choose from.
